Daria Shapovalova is a Senior Lecturer in Energy Law at the University of Aberdeen's School of Law. She serves as Director of the Centre for Energy Law and Coordinator of the Just Transitions Lab. Her work focuses on energy law, climate change, and just transitions in fossil fuel-dependent regions. She leads interdisciplinary projects like JUST-Systems (£5.7mln) and TRANSECTS (£2.2mln), addressing sustainable transitions in coastal communities.

Research Interests: Legal frameworks for fossil fuel phase-out, equitable energy transitions, Arctic policy, and deliberative democracy tools for community engagement. She explores how law can manage socio-economic impacts of decarbonization in regions like North East Scotland.
Grants & Projects: Co-Investigator on major UKRI/DEFRA-funded initiatives. Previously led a £100,000 Uplift project on just transitions in North East Scotland. Active in Arctic research through the Scottish Arctic Network.
Awards: 2024 Principal's Excellence Award for academic contributions. Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Member of UK Environmental Law Association and World Commission of Environmental Law.
