Daphne Maurer is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour at McMaster University, with additional appointments as Professor (Status-Only) at the University of Toronto's Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and Senior Fellow at Massey College. She serves as Chair of the Research Ethics Board at Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care and President of the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto.
Her research examines the development of visual perception and sensory processing, focusing on how early visual experience shapes neural development. Key areas include:
- Critical periods in visual development and plasticity
- Effects of congenital cataracts and visual deprivation
- Multisensory integration (audiovisual, visuotactile)

- Clinical applications for vision screening and amblyopia
