Danny Yakoub is a Professor and Section Chief in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. He is actively engaged in clinical practice, teaching, and research, with a focus on gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary malignancies.
His research interests center on improving clinical outcomes for patients with upper gastrointestinal and liver, biliary, and pancreatic cancers. His work spans both clinical outcomes analysis and basic science research, aiming to enhance survival and treatment efficacy through innovative surgical techniques and translational investigation.
Dr. Yakoub is trained in advanced minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. His clinical expertise includes the management of complex benign and malignant conditions of the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, biliary system, small intestine, and sarcomas.
He is actively involved in medical education, teaching medical students and surgical residents through core clerkships and sub-internships such as SURG 5000, SURG 5007, and SURG 5022. His teaching interests emphasize surgical training in upper GI and HPB surgery.
Dr. Yakoub completed his MBBCh at the University of Cairo in 1998, earned a PhD from Imperial College London, completed residency at Staten Island University Hospital, and undertook fellowship training in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami. Prior to joining Augusta University, he held positions at the University of Miami, University of Tennessee Health Sciences, and Mayo Clinic Health System.
He is board certified in Georgia and practices at the Georgia Cancer Center, CN 3329. His leadership as Section Chief reflects his role in shaping surgical oncology care and academic programs at the institution.
