Danny Stockli is the Department Chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Getty Oil Company Centennial Chair in Geological Sciences, John F. and Carolyn C. Bookout Endowed Chair in Structural Geology, Morgan J. Davis Centennial Chair in Geosciences, and Wilton E. Scott Centennial Professorship. As a Full Professor, he directs the UTChron laboratory and focuses on integrating thermochronology and geochronology to address tectonic and geological questions.
- Education: B.S. and M.S. from ETH Zurich, Ph.D. from Stanford University (1995).
- Postdoc: Caltech, 1997-1999.
- Career: Taught at University of Kansas (2001-2011) before joining UT Austin as Full Professor.
His research emphasizes tectonic processes like continental rifting, orogen-parallel extension, and collisional tectonics, using cutting-edge methods such as (U-Th)/He dating, LA-ICP-MS, and noble gas thermochronometry. He pioneered UTChron’s labs for geochronology and thermochronology.
Stockli’s work includes developing new geochronological tools (e.g., monazite He dating) and advancing thermal history recovery through advanced lab equipment. He collaborates globally on projects like the Basin and Range, Red Sea, and Alpine tectonics.
