Dr. Danny Kowalsky is a Lecturer in History at Queen's University Belfast's School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. His research focuses on 20th-century Spain, interwar diplomacy, and the Spanish Civil War. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has held academic positions at institutions including Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Bristol before joining Queen's in 2005.
His major works include the Gutenberg-e Prize-winning study on Soviet involvement in the Spanish Civil War and co-authored History in Dispute: The Spanish Civil War. Current projects include Decree and Power (Routledge) and Interwar Originals: Europeans Making History. He frequently lectures globally and participates in research networks at institutions like the Sorbonne and the London School of Economics.
He supervises PhD students in areas like anti-communism in Ireland, transatlantic anarchism, and British intelligence history. Awards include the 2001 Gutenberg-e Prize. His teaching includes modules on the Spanish Civil War's memory and history.
