Danilo Urzedo

Danilo Urzedo serves as a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia's School of Agriculture and Environment, where he conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of political ecology and science and technology studies. His work critically examines the political geographies of environmental knowledge, technologies, and markets, with particular emphasis on power dynamics and justice in conservation contexts.

Dr. Urzedo earned his PhD in Human Geography from the University of Sydney, following practical experience as a community forester in the Brazilian Amazon where he collaborated with Indigenous communities on ecosystem restoration initiatives. His academic journey continued with postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cambridge (2021-2022) and CSIRO Environment (2022-2025) before his current position.

His research program centers on the politics of environmental expertise, data infrastructures, and markets, with special attention to environmental justice and community leadership in restoration and conservation. Dr. Urzedo employs practice-based research methodologies and collaborative approaches, working directly with Indigenous organizations, landholders, and local communities to develop place-based solutions that account for multiple values and co-benefits. His work significantly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental sustainability and social equity.

Analysis of Dr. Urzedo's recent publications reveals a consistent trajectory toward integrating social dimensions into environmental conservation frameworks. Currently, Dr. Urzedo contributes to the ARC Training Centre for Healing Country through collaborative research on Indigenous restoration economies.
