Dr. Caroline Canham is a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA) School of Agriculture and Environment, funded by the National Environmental Science Program Resilient Landscapes Hub (NESP RLH). Her work focuses on native plant water requirements in rivers, wetlands, and aquifers, collaborating with policymakers, Aboriginal groups, and landholders. She holds a PhD and BSc from Edith Cowan University, with postdoctoral experience in water allocation and environmental regulation.
Current projects include ecological studies of south-western Australian rivers, urban river restoration (Canning River), and managing invasive grasses. Her research emphasizes transdisciplinary approaches, integrating policy and science to address freshwater systems' knowledge gaps.
Key collaborations involve the NESP Northern Australia Environmental Research Hub and Indigenous organizations, addressing tropical rivers like the Fitzroy River in the Kimberley region. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to water and ecosystems.
