Professor Danielle Gallegos is a leading academic in public health nutrition at Queensland University of Technology's School of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University and is an Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietitian (AdvAPD) and Fellow of Dietitians Australia. Her research focuses on food security, food literacy, and early infant feeding, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary solutions for marginalized communities including refugee families and First Nations communities.
She leads the Woolworths Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research and has secured over $6.5 million in research funding. Key projects include the 'Feeding Families in Tough Times' initiative, co-designing school food environments, and developing household food insecurity screening tools. Her book Food and Nutrition: Sustainable Food and Health Systems (2020) redefines tertiary nutrition education approaches.
Gallegos has supervised 15 completed PhD/Master’s students and is actively involved in professional bodies like the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations and Dietitians Australia. Her awards include the 2018 Fellowship of Dietitians Australia and the 2014 Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Award.
