Dr Danielle Bond is a Lecturer at the University of Newcastle’s School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, based at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and affiliated with the Hunter Cancer Research Alliance (HCRA). Her research focuses on epigenetic changes in cancer patients following drug treatment, particularly the role of tumor microenvironments in prognosis and treatment resistance. She completed her PhD in medical biochemistry at the University of Newcastle in 2015, investigating microRNA regulation of CD9 and CD151 in breast and prostate cancers.
Dr Bond has held roles including Postdoctoral Scientist in the Cancer Epigenetics group (led by Dr Heather Lee) and Research Associate. She teaches pharmacology courses, including creating content for PHAR6704. Her awards include a 2020 Highly Commendable Oral Presentation from HCRA. She has secured over $1.5M in grants, including NHMRC funding for studies on myelodysplastic syndrome and epigenetic therapies.
Her research spans drug discovery, DNA methylation, and leukemia, with over 40 publications. She supervises multiple PhD students exploring topics like epigenetic-hypoxia crosstalk in AML and single-cell epigenomics. Dr Bond’s work emphasizes translational research, aiming to bridge epigenetic discoveries with clinical applications.
