Danielle Beaujon is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on policing, race, and power in colonial and global contexts, particularly in France, North Africa, and the Mediterranean.
Education:
- PhD in History and French Studies (with distinction), New York University, 2021

Research Interests:
Beaujon explores the intersection of policing, colonialism, and race through studies of Mediterranean cities like Marseille and Algiers. Her work examines how policing practices reinforced racial hierarchies and shaped urban spaces. Key themes include colonial migration, surveillance, and the role of intermediaries in colonial control.
Publications:
Her forthcoming book, *Criminalizing the Casbah*, analyzes policing of North Africans in Marseille and Algiers (1918–1954). Recent articles address topics like the black market during WWII, colonial theater, and policing of North African migrants in Paris.
