Danielle Alderson is a Research Associate in the Department of Geography at the University of Manchester. Her research examines terrestrial carbon redistribution, cycling, and storage in upland landscapes, particularly focusing on eroding organic catchments like blanket bog peatlands. She employs geomorphological and biogeochemical techniques combined with radiocarbon dating to assess floodplain carbon storage dynamics.
Current research projects include the National Trust-funded 'Restoring Steep Bare Peat' and Natural England's 'Yorkshire Peat Partnership Nature for Climate Peatland Restoration.' Her work has been recognized with multiple awards including Research Staff of the Year (2019/2020) and the Eric Hardy Memorial Prize.
Recent publications address peatland microbial communities under climate change, academic career challenges in environmental sciences, and carbon loss pathways in degraded peatlands.
