Andreas Heinemeyer serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), which is affiliated with the University of York. His research career at SEI has progressed from Trainee Researcher to Research Associate and Senior Research Associate, culminating in his current role. He is actively engaged in interdisciplinary environmental research, focusing on the interactions between climate, land management, and ecosystem processes in natural habitats including forests, grasslands, and peatlands.
Dr. Heinemeyer's primary research areas include soil carbon cycling dynamics, ecosystem services assessment (particularly water storage, water quality, and biodiversity), and the impacts of climate change on plant-soil interactions. His recent work emphasizes peatland ecosystems, investigating how management practices affect carbon storage, habitat status, and restoration outcomes. He utilizes a combination of field measurements, ecological modeling, and interdisciplinary approaches to address complex environmental challenges.
His current research portfolio is driven by the IDEAL UK FIRE project (2022-2026), which aims to develop ecologically adaptive land management strategies for mitigating wildfire risks in the UK. Previously, he led projects on blanket bog management and soil quality improvement through mycorrhizal associations. Dr. Heinemeyer is open to supervising PhD students in self-funded or scholarship-funded projects aligned with his expertise in plant-soil processes and ecosystem services.
