Daniele Del Rio

Prof. Daniele Del Rio is a Full Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Parma's Department of Food and Pharmaceutical Sciences and serves as Vice-Rector for Research and Technology Transfer. He chairs the Board of Directors of the ONFOODS Foundation, focusing on food innovation and sustainability.

His teaching spans courses such as Applied Dietary Techniques, Food Science, and Nutrition across multiple academic cycles. His research emphasizes dietary polyphenols, gut microbiota interactions, and their impacts on health, with a focus on metabolic pathways and functional foods.

Key research areas include the bioavailability of flavan-3-ols, coffee and cocoa bioactives, and the role of diet in chronic diseases. He leads projects like the COMBAT study on cranberry interventions and contributes to global initiatives on ultra-processed foods and public health policy.

Prof. Del Rio collaborates with institutions worldwide and has established the Phisquare Lab, advancing translational nutrition research. His work bridges food science, microbiology, and clinical outcomes, with over 200 publications in high-impact journals.
