Daniele Costanzo is a Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering (DISEG) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he is also a member of the Interdepartmental Center SISCON – Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions. He teaches in the College of Civil and Building Engineering, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Research interests: Foundation Engineering, Geomechanics, Soil-Structure Interaction, Experimental Soil Mechanics, Behavior of Porous Media
- Scientific Disciplinary Sector: CEAR-05/A - Geotechnical Engineering (Area 0008 - Civil Engineering and Architecture)
- ERC Sectors: PE8_3 - Civil engineering, architecture, maritime/hydraulic engineering, geotechnics, waste treatment
- SDG Alignment: Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of geomaterials, particularly in foundation systems and natural structures. He investigates soil-structure interaction through experimental and numerical methods, with applications in infrastructure resilience and flood control. His work bridges geomechanics and civil engineering, emphasizing practical solutions for construction safety and environmental challenges.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in modeling geological structures under environmental stress, such as flood events and weathering processes. His studies on gypsum and marble explore micro-scale deformation, creep, and failure mechanisms, indicating a focus on material durability and long-term performance. These works span geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, and computational modeling, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach to infrastructure safety.
Daniele Costanzo has served as Scientific Manager for commercial research projects, including geotechnical characterization of river embankments and geological information systems. While no formal awards are listed, his leadership in applied research demonstrates recognition in the field.
He has been actively involved in PhD education, serving on doctoral colleges for Water and Land Management Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering since the 19th cycle (2003/2004). His teaching portfolio includes core courses such as Foundations, Geotechnical Design for Building Resilience, and Bridge Design and Reinforcement Workshop across Civil and Building Engineering programs.
He is affiliated with the SISCON Interdepartmental Center, which focuses on the safety of infrastructures and constructions, suggesting collaborative, interdisciplinary research efforts aimed at improving structural resilience and geotechnical safety.
