Daniele Caramani is a Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Zurich and holds the Ernst B. Haas Chair at the European University Institute, Florence. His work spans comparative and historical analysis of political cleavages, electoral systems, European integration, and globalization.

His research focuses on the interplay between territorial and functional cleavages across national, European, and global levels, with a particular emphasis on democratization processes, political representation, and the dynamics of populism and technocracy. The 15 most recent publications highlight trends in global cleavages, electoral systems, technocratic attitudes, and historical political economy.
Scientific Awards include the Stein Rokkan Prize (2004), Lijphart-Przeworski-Verba Dataset Award (2012), and a Vincent Wright Memorial Prize (2006). He also secured a €2.5 million ERC Advanced Grant (2023) for global cleavage research.
Caramani has led initiatives like the Constituency-Level Elections Archive and directed doctoral programs in Democracy Studies. His teaching spans comparative politics, electoral systems, and methodological design at undergraduate and graduate levels.
