Daniela Rosner is a Professor at the University of Washington's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE). She co-directs the TAT Lab and focuses on the social, political, and material dimensions of technology, emphasizing marginalized practices like maintenance and craft. Her work bridges design research, critical theory, and community engagement, supported by NSF awards. She earned a PhD from UC Berkeley, MS from the University of Chicago, and BFA from RISD.
Her research spans Afrofuturist feminism, generative AI in cinema, and ethical design for marginalized communities. She co-leads projects on Black user experiences with AI, equitable speech recognition systems, and critical design pedagogy. Her book *Critical Fabulations* reimagines design’s role in shaping socially responsible technology. She serves on editorial boards for *Artifact* and *Interactions Magazine*, and her teaching includes capstone formations and directed research groups.
Rosner’s awards include the NSF CAREER Award. Her work explores repair studies, digital craft, and the intersection of technology with cultural histories. She collaborates with activists, artists, and communities to challenge oppressive systems and envision equitable futures.
