Dr. Daniela Oehring is an Associate Professor in Optometry at the University of Plymouth, School of Health Professions (Faculty of Health). She leads cross-disciplinary research in ocular biomechanics, statistical modeling, and health research law. Her roles include Chair of the Faculty of Health Research Ethics and Integrity Committee, Senate Member, and International Exchange Coordinator for Optometry. Dr. Oehring holds Fellowships from the Royal Statistical Society and Higher Education Academy, and serves as a Trustee of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics.
Her research focuses on:
- Space Medicine (e.g., CAMões mission, Spaceflight Neuro-Ocular Syndrome)
- Biomechanical properties of scleral tissue for myopia prevention
- Inclusive design for myopic/low-vision children’s educational environments
- Standardizing corneal crosslinking outcomes via UK-Korean collaboration
- Underserved eye care needs for homeless populations
Teaching expertise includes: Healthcare Regulation, Medical Law, Legal Epidemiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Research Ethics. She actively supervises over 100 students since 2007, currently guiding 5 PhD/MD projects in biomechanics, space medicine, and healthcare economics. Her lab offers OECD-aligned ocular safety testing and welcomes collaborations in ophthalmic formulations and therapeutics.
Key achievements include developing the Burdett Fund webinar on homeless diabetes care, and pioneering telemetric intraocular pressure monitoring via implantable sensors (ARGOS-02 trial).
