Daniela Marchini is an Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Siena. She has been a researcher at the University since 1991 and qualified as an Associate Professor in Zoology in 2014. She currently serves as Director of the 60-credit initial teacher training program (class A050) and as University coordinator for the National Plan for Scientific Degrees in Biology and Biotechnology.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology (1986) from the University of Siena
- PhD in Animal Biology (1990) from the University of Siena
- Post-doctoral fellowship in Animal Biology (1991) from the University of Siena
Dr. Marchini's research centers on insect reproductive biology using morpho-functional and biochemical approaches. Key interests include sperm transfer/storage mechanisms, accessory reproductive gland secretions, and antimicrobial peptides in animal reproduction. She actively integrates these themes with biodiversity education initiatives and science teacher development programs.
Her recent publications reveal multidisciplinary trends: reproductive biology investigations into human sperm physiology and oxidative stress markers (2025), environmental toxicology studies on pollutant impacts in sea turtle conservation (2024), and innovative biodiversity education frameworks for teacher training (2023). Additional work spans space biology applications and human vision science.
Dr. Marchini leads extensive teacher development initiatives including the National Plan for Scientific Degrees, 24 CFU Training Courses, and initial/ongoing science teacher certification programs. She serves as Department Orientation Delegate (2022-present) and Director of the A050 teacher training program (2023-24), while coordinating university-wide scientific degree orientation efforts since 2014.
