Daniela Johannes is an Associate Professor of Languages in the Languages and Cultures Department at West Chester University, part of the College of Arts & Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from The University of Arizona and a B.A. from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Her research explores the intersection of border security, material culture, and human dynamics in the U.S.-Mexico border region.
Dr. Johannes teaches courses including 'Latinos in the US,' 'Contemporary Latin American Narrative,' and 'Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies.' She is co-director of the Latino Communities Conference and serves on the Executive Committee for the Ethnic Studies Institute at WCU.
Her recent publication, Border Architectures: Nature, Technology and Humanness in the Sonoran Desert, examines how technology and environmental factors shape border dynamics.
