Daniela De Angeli is a Researcher at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Bath Institute for the Augmented Human, and a member of the Foundry Centre for Digital, Manufacturing & Design and the Centre for Integrated Materials, Processes & Structures (IMPS). She holds a Doctor of Engineering (EngD) from the University of Bath, completed in 2018. Her research focuses on interactive media and game design methodologies, particularly exploring how agonistic frameworks and gameful approaches can foster critical thinking and sociocultural reflection in museums and heritage sites.
Her work bridges digital technology with cultural heritage, emphasizing participatory design, holographic displays, and the emotional impact of immersive experiences. Projects include the UNREST MOOC dataset, which examines how societies remember war and violence, and collaborations with institutions like the Ruhr Museum Essen and a First World War museum in Slovenia. She investigates topics such as multi-perspective narratives in games, dark tourism, and the use of emoji-based systems to capture visitor emotions in museums.
Her research contributions span game design, museum studies, and human-computer interaction, with a focus on creating tools like GameTale to empower museum professionals. She actively collaborates internationally, addressing transnational memory issues and the role of technology in education and social change.
