Dr. Daniel Zabek is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southampton and recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship (2019-2024). His research focuses on functional and smart materials, including ferrofluids, nanoparticles, and energy harvesting systems. He explores thermal, piezoelectric, and pyroelectric properties of polymers and ceramics, with applications in waste heat recovery and two-phase energy systems.
Education: PhD in Materials Science (University of Bath, 2016), MSc with Distinction (Heriot-Watt University, 2012), BSc (University Duisburg-Essen, 2011). Professional memberships include Chartered Engineer (CEng), Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), and Full member of the EPSRC Peer Review College.
Current research interests span ferromagnetic/ferroelectric phenomena, nanocomposite synthesis, and vibration energy harvesting devices. He supervises a PhD project on barium hexaferrite nanoplatelets and leads projects on novel ferrofluid manufacturing for energy applications.
