Daniel Wohl serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Occidental College since 2018. Born in Paris and based in Los Angeles, he is internationally recognized for innovative compositions blending electronic and acoustic elements, earning acclaim from NPR, The New York Times, and Pitchfork.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. from Bard College
- M.A. from University of Michigan School of Music
- Ph.D. from Yale School of Music (studied under David Lang)
Wohl's research explores the integration of technology in acoustic performance contexts across contemporary classical, film, and television domains. His creative practice spans intimate solo works to large-scale orchestral compositions, emphasizing immersive electronic textures and cross-disciplinary experimentation. The New York Times identifies him among "imaginative, skillful creators" for his boundary-pushing approach to sound design.
His concert music has been performed globally at venues including Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, The Barbican, and MASS MoCA by ensembles such as San Francisco Symphony, London Contemporary Orchestra, and Bang on a Can All-Stars. Significant film/television collaborations include work with directors Luca Guadagnino and Patty Jenkins.
