Daniel Wilhelms is an Adjunct Associate Professor and Docent affiliated with Linköping University's Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences. He is a senior physician in emergency care at Linköping University Hospital and leads research within the Emergency Medicine Research Center, the first university healthcare unit in emergency medicine in Sweden. His work focuses on advancing emergency care practices, diagnostic tools, and clinical outcomes through experimental and epidemiological studies.
His research spans critical care innovations, healthcare safety, and translational pharmacology. Notable projects include evaluating point-of-care technologies, mitigating workplace violence in emergency settings, and investigating physiological markers like capillary refill time. He also explores neuropharmacological mechanisms of addiction, particularly cocaine reinforcement pathways.
In 2023, he was awarded Region Östergötland's research prize for young investigators. His work is supported by grants from the Wallenberg Center for Molecular Medicine and regional initiatives aimed at strengthening clinically oriented research.
Wilhelms collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Linköping University Hospital and academic institutions, contributing to both clinical practice and fundamental biomedical science.
