Daniel Tichenor is the Philip H. Knight Chair of Social Science at the University of Oregon and Director of the Program on Democratic Governance at the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics. He holds a professorship in Political Science and is affiliated with the Knight Chair, emphasizing interdisciplinary social science research. His work focuses on immigration policy, social movements, political institutions, and nativism, with a recent emphasis on youth political engagement and immigration reform.
He has authored seven books and over 80 articles, including Rivalry and Reform (2019) and Democracy's Child (2022). He has held fellowships at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School, the Brookings Institution, and the JFK Presidential Library. His awards include the Gladys Kammerer Award (APSA), the Jack Walker Prize, and the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship (2015).
His research bridges academia and public policy, with testimony before Congress and media commentary in National Public Radio, The Atlantic, and The New York Times. Current projects include Unsettled: Governing Immigration in a Polarized Nation, exploring immigration policy challenges in divided political contexts.
