Prof. Daniel Tews is a Research Professor at the University of Ulm's Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. His research focuses on metabolic disorders in children, particularly brown adipose tissue function, genetic obesity mechanisms, and lipodystrophy syndromes. He investigates molecular pathways underlying metabolic diseases and explores therapeutic targets for childhood obesity.
Research interests center on endocrine regulation of metabolism, adipose tissue biology, and genetic determinants of metabolic disorders. His work bridges clinical observations with molecular mechanisms to develop targeted interventions for pediatric metabolic diseases.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on molecular pathways in obesity (PI3K/AKT signaling, mitochondrial function) and neuroinflammatory processes. Articles frequently incorporate translational approaches from animal models to human biology.
Laboratory activities include the development of human brown adipose tissue models and functional characterization of obesity genes. Research projects have received funding from DFG and other national research organizations.
