معرفی
Professor Daniel Tan is a distinguished academic at The University of Sydney, holding a position in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. He is a member of multiple prestigious research centers including the Sydney Institute of Agriculture, Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, and The University of Sydney Nano Institute. His work spans agricultural science with a particular focus on crop adaptation to environmental stresses.
Professor Tan's research interests encompass a wide range of agricultural disciplines, with special emphasis on agronomy, horticulture, precision agriculture, plant biology and production, food and nutrition, environmental science, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agricultural practices. His work particularly focuses on understanding how crops respond to abiotic stresses such as heat, waterlogging, and drought, with the goal of developing more resilient crop varieties.
The 15 most recent publications demonstrate Professor Tan's strong research focus on crop stress tolerance, particularly regarding heat stress in chickpea, wheat, and cotton. His work spans molecular breeding approaches, genetic diversity assessment, physiological trait identification, and sustainable agricultural systems. A significant portion of his research addresses food security challenges in Southeast Asia and Australia, with applications for climate change adaptation in agricultural systems.
Professor Tan actively mentors the next generation of agricultural scientists, currently supervising multiple PhD and Master's students working on projects related to crop improvement, including CRISPR gene editing for tomato male sterile lines, strategies to reduce mushroom browning, and identification of high-temperature tolerant wheat varieties.
His research extends across multiple laboratories and collaborative networks, particularly with Southeast Asian institutions, focusing on sustainable intensification of agricultural systems, crop adaptation to changing climates, and food security challenges in the region. Professor Tan's work bridges fundamental plant science with practical applications for farmers facing increasing environmental challenges.
