Dr. Daniel Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Cardiff University's School of Social Sciences. His research focuses on cultural sociology, elites, celebrity culture, digital sociability, and comedy studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Exeter, where his ethnographic work examined elite group identity through the lens of the Jack Wills brand. His monograph The Fall and Rise of the English Upper Class: Houses, Kinship and Capital since 1945 (2023) explores post-war British class dynamics and cultural identity. Smith has published widely in top journals including The Sociological Review and Celebrity Studies. He actively contributes to public sociology through media outlets like The Conversation and BBC Radio 4's Thinking Allowed. His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate modules in social theory and cultural analysis.
