Prof. Dr. Daniel Schubert is a W2 Professor for 'Epigenetics of Plants' at Freie Universität Berlin's Department of Biology (Institute of Biology). He leads the Schubert Group, focusing on plant epigenetics, particularly the role of Polycomb-group (Pc-G) proteins in cell fate maintenance and stress memory. His academic journey includes a PhD (2002) and Diploma (1999) from the University of Cologne, and postdoctoral research at the University of Edinburgh.
Research Interests:
- Epigenetic regulation of plant development and stress responses.
- Role of Pc-G proteins (e.g., H3K27me3) in maintaining cell identity and floral commitment.
- Cell-type specific epigenetic memory and chromatin dynamics.
Awards & Activities:
- Heisenberg Fellowship (2015), DFG Postdoctoral Fellowship (2004–2006).
- Editorial roles: Frontiers in Plant Physiology, PLoS Genetics.
- Teaching: Courses on plant epigenetics, developmental biology, and molecular genetics.
Labs/Teams: Active in collaborative projects with guest scientists (e.g., Kishore Panigrahi, Stephen Rader) and manages a lab with ~20 current and former students/postdocs.
