Professor Daniel Prince is a Professor of Cyber Security at Lancaster University and co-director of Security Lancaster, an interdisciplinary research institute addressing next-generation security challenges. His research focuses on Cyber Risk Management and Cyber Threat Intelligence for complex socio-technical systems, emphasizing qualitative/quantitative approaches to counter persistent digital threats. He collaborates across disciplines, notably in International Relations, to explore technology’s broader implications on defense policies. His engagement spans proactive collaborations with businesses, governments, and the public to foster rational discourse on cybersecurity.
Research Interests: Cybersecurity frameworks, systemic risks in financial services, threat intelligence, and interdisciplinary applications in defense policy. Key areas include moving beyond asset-centric risk management to threat-agent and effect-based approaches.
Recent publications highlight advancements in autonomous agent deception, formal verification methods, healthcare cybersecurity, and industrial systems protection. His work bridges theoretical concepts with practical applications, such as ICS testbed development and policy engagement.
- Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD students (Pierre Ciholas, Anna Dyson, et al.). Active in projects like Cyber Risk as Systemic Risk in Financial Services (2018–2025) and HIPSTER (Health IoT Privacy and Security).
- Labs/Teams: Leads the Cyber Threat Lab, part of Security Lancaster’s interdisciplinary network.
