Daniel Portner

Daniel Portner is Assistant Professor of Geophysics at New Mexico Tech, investigating subduction zone dynamics through seismic tomography. His research combines field seismology with computational modeling to image mantle structures and plate interactions.

Education includes Ph.D. in Geosciences from University of Arizona (2019) and B.S. from University of North Carolina. Previous positions include postdoctoral fellowships at Arizona State University and Carnegie Institution.

Research focuses on slab geometry interpretation using teleseismic data, with regional expertise in Nazca Plate subduction beneath South America and Anatolian tectonics. Develops open-source tools like TomoSlab for slab modeling.
