Professor Daniel Pietrek serves as Vice-Rector for Science at the University of Opole and is affiliated with the Institute of Literary Studies. He holds the academic rank of professor and is actively engaged in literary research with a focus on Polish-German cultural connections in Silesia.
His research interests center on Polish and German literature, particularly the works of Horst Bienek, Silesian cultural history, and multiculturalism in the region. Professor Pietrek has demonstrated expertise in biographical narrative creation, as evidenced by his recent work on the documentary film about Horst Bienek.
On September 9, 2025, he participated in a screening of the film "Lost World: In Search of Horst Bienek" at the House of Remembrance of the Jews of Upper Silesia in Gliwice, where he created and narrated the biographical narrative. During the panel discussion following the screening, he emphasized Bienek's exploration of Silesian Jewish culture and its role in shaping regional identity.
