Dr. Daniel Newbrook is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's School of Electronics and Computer Science, affiliated with the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Sustainable Electronic Technologies (SET) research groups. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the same university and has conducted postdoctoral research on flexible thermoelectric generators funded by the EPSRC IAA project. His work focuses on reusable SoC infrastructure, hardware accelerators (including AI integration), and low-power SoC design. He collaborates with industry partners such as Arm through the Arm-ECS Research Centre, advancing novel hardware integration in SoC systems.
Education: BEng (First Class Honours) in Electronic Engineering (2017), University of Southampton; PhD in Thin Film Thermoelectric Materials (2022), supervised by Prof. Kees de Groot.
Research interests include thermoelectric materials characterization, memristor technologies, and energy harvesting systems. His articles span topics like alkali-doped oxyselenides, high-endurance memristors, and AI-driven thermoelectric optimization. He is actively engaged in interdisciplinary projects at SoClabs and open to collaborations on SoC integration of novel hardware components.
