Daniel Mohseni Kabir Backstrom is a Research Fellow in Chinese Studies at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities. His doctoral research, titled *Ghosts and the State: Immaterial Agencies in the Blang Mountains*, explores interactions between the Blang people (a Theravada Buddhist minority in Zomian highlands near the China-Myanmar border) and intangible entities like ghosts and the state.
