Daniel Mendez

Daniel Mendez serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Research Unit of Marine Natural Products Chemistry at GEOMAR - Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany. Since joining in June 2023, he has contributed to marine ecology research within Topic 6: Marine and Polar Life, focusing on bioactive compound discovery from marine organisms.

His exceptional academic background includes:

• Triple PhD completion in 2022: Sciences (Biology) from Hasselt University, Pharmaceutical Sciences from University of Antwerp, and Health Sciences from Universidad de Oriente
• MSc in Biotechnology from Universidad de Oriente (2019)

Dr. Mendez specializes in natural products chemistry and metabolomics, employing LC-MS, untargeted metabolomics, and molecular networking for secondary metabolite characterization. His research bridges marine science with pharmaceutical applications, examining bioactive compounds from both marine and terrestrial sources with emphasis on Cuban biodiversity.
