Daniel Maudlin is Professor at the University of Plymouth's School of Society and Culture, specializing in the history of the British Empire (1600-1900) with focus on North Atlantic and Indian Subcontinent contexts. He leads MA Heritage Theory and Practice and directs Plymouth Heritage Praxis consultancy. His research includes imperial architecture, material culture, and heritage interpretation through projects like Objects, Spaces, Sounds (AHRC-funded) and the EPSRC's ICONIC Project on digital heritage access.
Research interests span colonial architecture, vernacular building traditions, and heritage preservation. Current work examines intercultural placemaking in Hudson Bay and rethinking curatorial approaches to 18th-century sites with the National Trust.
Awards include the Noble Prize for Building the British Atlantic World and Scotsman History Book of the Year for The Highland House Transformed. He advises PhD candidates on cultural heritage topics and collaborates with organizations like Historic England and Dartmoor National Park.
