Daniel Magnabosco Marra is a Brazilian forest ecologist and biogeochemist affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (Jena, Germany) and National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA) (Manaus, Brazil). As a Professor at INPA's Tropical Forest Science Program since 2018 and Staff Scientist at Germany's Julius Kühn Institute (2023-present), he studies Amazon forest responses to environmental gradients and extreme weather events through integrated field inventory, remote sensing, and climate data analyses.
His research interests span
- Amazonian forest dynamics
- Windthrow impact assessment
- Carbon cycling under disturbance
- Climate-vegetation interactions
- Ecosystem resilience modeling
Notable scientific awards include
- Affiliate Membership in the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2022)
- Doctor Honoris Causa from National University of the Peruvian Amazon (2022)
He has supervised 12 PhD/MSc candidates, including ACEVEDO OC, PEIXOTO ASL, and MUÑOZ JDU, while leading projects like INVENTA (2019-present) and ATTO (2017-present) investigating wind-forest interactions and Amazon tall tower observatory data.
