Daniel M. Witt is the Tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. He also serves as the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs within the same institution. Dr. Witt holds dual academic roles, combining administrative leadership with teaching and research. He earned his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Utah and his PharmD from the University of Washington, followed by additional clinical training in pharmacy residency programs.
His research focuses on optimizing anticoagulation therapy, particularly through evidence-based solutions for clinical practitioners and patients. Key areas include warfarin patient self-management, venous thromboembolism management, and guideline development for anticoagulant therapies. He has contributed to major clinical guidelines, including the 2012 CHEST Consensus Guidelines for Antithrombotic Therapy and the American Society of Hematology’s venous thromboembolism guidelines.
Dr. Witt has authored over 170 journal articles and 12 book chapters, with recent work emphasizing shared decision-making strategies in atrial fibrillation management, cost-effectiveness of anticoagulation therapies, and patient-reported outcomes in bleeding-related quality of life. His publications span topics like DOAC prescribing trends in obesity, pediatric thromboembolism in congenital heart disease, and provider perspectives on anticoagulation practices.
He has received numerous teaching awards, including multiple Teacher of the Year recognitions from pharmacy students. His service contributions include leadership roles in national organizations such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Witt teaches courses in integrated therapeutics, drug literature evaluation, and thrombosis electives, emphasizing evidence-based practice and patient-centered care. He leads the PharmD Projects Committee and chairs the Strategic Chairs Committee, reflecting his administrative commitment to student development and institutional strategy.
