Professor Daniel M. Suter is a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University, part of the College of Science. His research focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of axonal growth, guidance, and regeneration, using Aplysia and zebrafish models. He holds grants from NIH, the Indiana CTSI, and Purdue’s Ross-Lynn Research Fund. Suter earned his BS from ETH Zurich (1988) and PhD from the University of Zurich (1995), followed by postdoctoral training at Yale University.

Research Interests: Suter’s lab investigates growth cone motility, cytoskeletal dynamics, ROS signaling, and axonal regeneration. Key projects include studying Nox-derived ROS in guidance, mechanosensing in growth cones, spinal cord injury drug screening in zebrafish, and bulk cytoskeletal flow.
Awards: He has received the Graduate Student Mentoring Award (2021, 2017), Seed for Success Award (2020, 2013), and teaching/mentorship accolades. His work has been supported by grants like NIH R01 and Purdue’s Ross-Lynn Research Scholar Grant.
Grants & Labs: Current grants include NIH funding for Nox2 signaling and Indiana CTSI support for light-sheet microscopy. The Suter Lab collaborates with Arvind Raman’s group on nanomechanical studies and participates in Purdue’s Neuroscience Institute and Integrative Biology initiatives.
