Daniel Lodge

Daniel Lodge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at UT Health San Antonio's School of Medicine, where he has been conducting neuroscience research since 2009.

Education:

• B.Sc. from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia
• Ph.D. from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia
• Postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh (2004-2009)

Lodge's research focuses on understanding the neuronal systems contributing to psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, and PTSD. His work aims to uncover the neurobiology behind these conditions to develop more effective therapies. He emphasizes that while current treatments can be effective when they work, they often have side effects and don't help all patients, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic approaches based on deeper neurobiological understanding.

Lodge finds great satisfaction in mentoring students, noting that 'seeing a student publish their first paper, pass their qualifying exam and, ultimately, defending their dissertation is incredibly rewarding for a mentor.' He values the collaborative environment at UT Health San Antonio, describing colleagues as 'not only spectacular scientists but are also great people who are supportive and highly collaborative.'

Outside academia, Lodge is married to a realtor and father of two boys. The family enjoys exploring San Antonio's food scene and traveling to visit relatives in Australia approximately once a year.
