Daniel Lawrence is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University of Detroit Mercy, affiliated with the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences. He joined the university in 2005 and became a full-time faculty member in 2024. His expertise spans suicide prevention, group counseling, career counseling, and counseling supervision. Lawrence holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Wayne State University (2003) and an M.A. in Counseling from the University of Detroit Mercy (1992).

Research Interests: Lawrence focuses on suicide prevention/interventions, group counseling methodologies, career counseling strategies, and the historical evolution of counseling as a profession. His current project examines risk and mitigation factors related to adolescent and young adult suicide.
Professional Engagement: He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and School Counselor License (SCL) holder, with leadership roles in the American Counseling Association, Michigan Counseling Association, and Michigan School Counseling Association. Lawrence emphasizes fostering growth in new professionals through supervision and has presented at numerous conferences.
