Daniel L. Everett is Dean of Arts and Sciences at Bentley University and former Professor of Linguistics and Anthropology at Illinois State University. With over 20 years of fieldwork studying the Pirahã culture in the Brazilian Amazon, his research challenges conventional theories of language and cognition.
His work focuses on how culture shapes language structure and challenges the notion of universal grammar. Research interests include linguistic relativity, cultural constraints on cognition, and the relationship between language and thought.
He has authored influential books including Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes, Language: The Cultural Tool, and How Language Began, exploring humanity's greatest invention.
As Dean, he oversees academic programs and promotes interdisciplinary research connecting linguistics, anthropology, and cognitive science.
