Daniel L. Chen is a Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and holds multiple prestigious roles, including Evelyn Green Davis Fellow at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Director of Research at CNRS, and Co-Chair of Moral AI at ANITI. He earned his BA and MS in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University, a PhD in Economics from MIT, and a JD from Harvard Law School.
His research focuses on law and economics, judicial systems, and the application of AI to enhance justice. Key areas include judicial bias, legal analytics, and the impact of court reforms. Chen’s work integrates big data, machine learning, and experimental methods to study normative commitments and their societal implications. He leads the AMICUS initiative, aiming to revolutionize justice system measurements through data-driven strategies.
Chen has published in top journals like the American Economic Review and Nature Human Behavior, and his research has been funded by grants totaling over €28 million from the European Research Council and others. He serves on numerous conference committees and has delivered keynote addresses at global legal and economics forums.
