Professor Daniel Katz is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kansas, where he has been since 1984. He holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin (1982). His research focuses on commutative algebra, with interests in asymptotic prime sequences, Rees algebras, symbolic powers, and mixed characteristic problems. He has advised five PhD students, including Eric West, Emanoil Theodorescu, Glenn Rice, Grant Serio, and Prashanth Sridhar. In Spring 2025, he teaches Math 540 (Elementary Number Theory) and Math 590 (Linear Algebra). His work bridges algebraic structures with geometric and computational perspectives.
- Education: PhD in Mathematics, University of Texas at Austin, 1982
- Affiliation: University of Kansas since 1984
Research interests include multiplicity theory, homological algebra, and computational algebraic geometry. His recent publications address symbolic topologies, mixed characteristic, and extensions in algebraic structures. He actively contributes to the academic community through teaching, mentoring, and collaborative research in commutative algebra.
