Daniel K. Johnson

Dr. Daniel K. Johnson serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences within East Tennessee State University's School of Science, Engineering, and Math. Based in Ross Hall, Room 316, he can be contacted at johnsondk2@etsu.edu or 423-439-7655.

Research in Dr. Johnson's domain centers on Appalachian geology and paleontological studies, heavily leveraging ETSU's unique assets: the Gray Fossil Site and Center of Excellence in Paleontology. His work investigates Miocene-era fossil records to reconstruct regional climate history and ecological evolution, with emphasis on stratigraphic analysis and sedimentology of Tennessee's fossil-rich deposits.

As part of the Geosciences department's academic framework, Dr. Johnson contributes to undergraduate/graduate programs including the Honors Program in Geosciences and Appalachian Student Research Forum. Students gain hands-on experience through fieldwork at the Gray Fossil Site and laboratory research within the paleontology center, preparing them for careers in earth sciences and resource management.
