Daniel J. Mallinson is an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Administration and Program Chair of the Masters in Public Administration program at Penn State Harrisburg's School of Public Affairs. He also directs the PSH Policy Process Lab and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Evidence & Policy, demonstrating his leadership in both academic administration and scholarly publication.
Dr. Mallinson received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 2015, with additional graduate degrees from Penn State (2012) and Villanova University (2009). His undergraduate education was completed at Elizabethtown College (2008) where he earned a B.A. in Political Science.
His research expertise centers on state and local politics and policy, with particular emphasis on policy diffusion among U.S. states. He has extensive knowledge of Pennsylvania politics, public administration, and statistical methodology. Dr. Mallinson has published in leading journals including Public Administration Review, Policy Studies Journal, Policy & Politics, State Politics & Policy Quarterly, and State & Local Government Review. He has also authored books with prestigious academic publishers including NYU Press, Routledge, Palgrave, and the American Political Science Association.
His recent scholarship examines judicial elections in Pennsylvania, cannabis policy development, and electoral trends in pivotal swing states. His work demonstrates consistent attention to how policy innovations spread across states and the political dynamics that shape policy adoption, particularly in the context of Pennsylvania's unique political landscape.
