Daniel Hjelmgren is an Associate Professor in Marketing at the University of Borås, affiliated with the Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business and the Department of Business Administration and Textile Management. His research focuses on product and business development with an emphasis on circumventing resource challenges in the textile and clothing industry. He has worked at the university since 2008 and defended his thesis at Chalmers University of Technology in industrial marketing. Currently, he contributes to the project Rental models – Study of business models in the textile and clothing industry for a resource-efficient everyday life.
Research Interests center on resource interaction and value creation within sustainable business models. His work explores rental models, business networks, and institutional dynamics in the textile sector. He also investigates supply chain sustainability, proximity manufacturing, and digital paradoxes in circular innovation.
Recent Publications highlight trends in rental models, product longevity, and institutional re-configuration for circular economies. His studies span from 2025 research on multi-level product development to older works on proximity manufacturing and consumer socialization.
Supervisory Roles: Main supervisor for doctoral students Agnes Andersson Wänström and Ann Vellesalu, and co-supervisor for Ida Hermansson. His collaborations often involve ReTuna and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden.
