Daniel Hedlund serves as Senior Lecturer in Administrative Law with a focus on Social Law at Uppsala University's Faculty of Law, holding the title of Associate Professor in Sociology of Law since 2022. He teaches social law and migration law courses in the law program and co-directs the mandatory Law and Social Work (RoSA) curriculum for social work students alongside Dr. Tim Holappa.
His academic credentials span multiple disciplines: Associate Professor in Sociology of Law (Uppsala University, 2022), PhD (Stockholm University, 2016), Master of Human Rights (University of Sydney, 2011), Juris Doctor (Stockholm University, 2008) with Chilean exchange studies under a Linnaeus-Palme scholarship, and Bachelor of Philosophy (Stockholm University, 2007).
Hedlund's research examines welfare state challenges through human rights, migration, and children's rights frameworks. He investigates systemic tensions in social welfare law regarding minority inclusion, integration policies, and children's protection systems, emphasizing how social theory informs legal practice in multicultural contexts. His interdisciplinary approach bridges legal scholarship with sociological analysis of social change.
His recent publication on unaccompanied children analyzes 'social selective forgetting' in integration processes, revealing how institutional memory gaps affect child protection systems. This work exemplifies his focus on migration law's intersection with children's rights and welfare state adaptations.
As an active member of the Center for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) since 2021, Hedlund serves on its scientific council (2025-2027). His collaborative work extends to cross-institutional projects like the Children, Migration, Integration initiative, demonstrating commitment to transdisciplinary research administration and team-based academic innovation.
