Dr. Daniel Gray is an Adjunct Lecturer in Immunology at Alfred Hospital, Monash University. His research focuses on understanding how immune cells decide to attack pathogens or cancer without harming the body's organs. His work addresses defects in immune regulation that lead to immunodeficiency, cancer, or autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes. He leads projects funded by Cancer Council Victoria, including a $300,000 initiative exploring chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) using mass cytometry.
Key research interests include immune cell death mechanisms, immunological tolerance, and leveraging technologies like CyTOF and multiphoton imaging. His lab investigates T-cell development and cancer resistance, with recent studies on CLL and thymic tolerance mechanisms.
Dr. Gray has published extensively on topics such as NK cell tumor immunity, T-lymphoblastic leukemia, and PD-1 blockade therapy. He has led a National Health and Medical Research Council-funded project (2006–2009) on environmental factors and autoimmune disease.
