Dr. Daniel Gill is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Winchester. He holds a BSc in Physics (Magna cum laude) from Ben-Gurion University, Israel; an MSc in Computational Neuroscience and a PhD in Statistics from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology, University of Glasgow, UK. His research focuses on cognitive mechanisms of social perception, particularly social inference from facial morphology, dynamics, and coloration. He develops innovative psychophysical methods and has pioneered techniques like Bubble-Warp for visualizing mental representations. Earlier work includes machine learning applications in shape recognition and biomedical signal analysis, earning a Best Paper Award in 2007.
Research Interests:
- Social perception and cognition
- Facial dynamics and their role in social interaction
- Machine learning in biomedical signal processing
- Gender differences in facial perception
Publications highlight trends in facial morphology analysis, dynamic gesture effects on social judgment, and cross-cultural studies in social evaluation. His work bridges psychology, neuroscience, and computational methods, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. Awards include recognition for shape classification research.
