**Roles & Affiliations**: Daniel Gagnon is an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal's School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences and holds an accreditation in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology within the Faculty of Medicine. He is also affiliated with the Montreal Heart Institute (Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal) and the CEPSUM research center. His work focuses on human physiological responses to thermal stress and heat-related interventions for cardiovascular health.
**Education**: BSc (2005), MSc (2007), PhD (2012) in Kinesiology from the University of Ottawa, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Physiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (2016).
**Research Interests**: 1) Human physiological responses to heat stress, particularly in aging populations and those with cardiovascular conditions. 2) Benefits of sauna therapy for primary/secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. His work identifies interventions to mitigate heat-related health risks and explores adaptations from repeated heat exposure.
**Grants & Collaborations**: Lead researcher on multiple grants, including studies funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), and the IRSST. Projects include heat acclimation mechanisms, sauna therapy efficacy, and workplace heat stress mitigation strategies.
**Awards**: Notable recognitions include the 2021 New Investigator Award from the American Physiological Society and the 2013 Governor General's Gold Medal (University of Ottawa).
**Student Supervision**: Advised over 10 PhD and MSc students, with recent focuses on heat stress physiology, cardiovascular adaptations, and clinical applications of thermal interventions.
